Washington D.C. Liposuction
The Basics
What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure intended to permanently remove unwanted
fat to smooth "problem areas" and create a more appealing contour and provided
a
toned
appearance. Common areas of treatment include the thighs, hips, arms, abdominal
area and waist, neck, calves, ankles, and inner knees.
Who is this for?
Any person who has excess, exercise resistant fat - liposuction is not intended
to serve as an alternative to standard weight loss programs. Patients are
usually fairly close to their healthy weight, but advanced methods of this
surgery do allow for larger volume liposuction.
About the liposuction procedure
Liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis, usually under general
anesthesia. Small incisions are placed inconspicuously at the area
of treatment, and a tubular device is used to suction out fat deposits
and liquids.
What is involved
in the liposuction recovery period?
A variety of compression garment is worn home on the treated areas, and can
be worn for about a month to assist with healing, as it will reduce swelling.
Standard pain medication can be taken to control any initial discomfort. Bruising
and swelling should be mostly faded in 2-4 weeks, and the final result will
develop over the 2-3 months following surgery.
