Gynecomastia
The Basics
What is a gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia, or male breast reduction, is a surgical procedure intended to
reduce the size of a man's breasts, creating a more masculine contour.
Who is this for?
Any male who, because of genetics or large volume
weight loss, has excessively large breasts or sagging chest tissue.
About the gynecomastia procedure
Breast reduction is peformed on an outpatient basis, usually under general
anesthesia, or local with sedation. Excess breast tissue and fat can be removed
through liposuction, excision, or a combinatin of both.
What is involved
in the gynecomastia recovery period?
Patients wear a chest wrapping or compression for about a 1-2 weeks following
surgery to control swelling. The sutures are usually removed about 7-10 days
after surgery. Patients return to work as comfortable - sometimes as early
as a few days following the procedure.
