Washington D.C. Breast Augmentation
The Basics
What is breast augmentation?
Breast Augmentation is a surgical procedure intended to increase the size of
underdeveloped breasts and create a more feminine shape.
Who is it for?
Essentially, any woman who desires larger breasts. Many women attribute small
breasts to genetics, while others site pregnancy or nursing as the cause of
a decrease in breast size. Plenty of women also benefit from breast augmentation
to correct asymmetrical breasts.
About the breast augmentation procedure
Breast augmentation is performed on an ouptatient basis, and usually under
general anesthesia. The incision may be placed either under the breast, on
the border of the areola, or through the underarm. A saline implant is then
placed either under or over the muscle wall, depening on the desired results,
and the area is sutured.
What is involved
in the breast augmentation recovery period?
Standard pain medication can be taken to control any initial
discomfort. The sutures are usually removed about 7-12 days
after surgery, but most patients can return to work just a
few days after having the procedure performed. Light activities
can be resumed as tolerated, though physical contact with the
breasts should be avoided for about 3-4 weeks.
